Most people are only interested in perception-based popularity; in whatever they think grants them the greatest advantages based upon the conventional understanding of those things painting people in a relatively flattering or unflattering light. This is what drives the ego; the false, concocted, popularly-perceived self. Accepting and esteeming the small self as perceived by others. Popular, surface-level perception. Very few are all that interested in the underlying truth that is far more real, difficult and rewarding to grasp in the long run. Social media ‘likes’ over literature. Gossip over ideas. Facebook over philosophy. Instant gratification over the fuller, completing satisfactions that must be earned, and which impart truths that easy gratifications can’t touch. All a side-effect of the wealth, social status, individualism, ego worshipping western culture betraying the best of life.
